European Nonwovens Association reports a decline in nonwoven production in 2009

(Summary description)Business News, June 30: According to the European Nonwovens Association (EDANA) report, the nonwovens industry in Europe experienced a sharp decline in 2009. According to the report, in terms of weight, the production of nonwovens has fallen by 6.3% since 2008 to 1.6 billion tons, due to the challenging economic environment and reduced product weight.

After several years of double-digit growth, the weight of non-woven fabrics was greatly reduced in 2009 because they are mainly used to produce personal care wipes. However, sales continued to remain stable, with the lowest growth rate in surface applications.

Therefore, this shows that although the number of production in terms of weight has declined, the number of square meters in the manufacturing industry has continued to rise.

From the comparison of the selected business groups in 2008 and 2009, the total nonwovens prices in 2008 and 2009 were almost unaffected.

Jacques Prigneux, head of market analysis and economic affairs at EDANA, said that although the flow of trade exports and imports slowed down a bit in 2009, in terms of value and volume, the trade balance of non-woven fabric products in the EU 27 countries continues to remain optimistic. .

In addition, in terms of non-woven fabric sub-categories, the 27 EU countries continue to maintain their status as net exporters. The balance of trade balance is optimistic, helping to reduce the trade deficit in the European textile industry.

However, the tonnage of polymer-based (spunmelt) nonwovens has the most significant reduction. In addition, although the delivery volume of non-woven fabrics in the health care business has decreased by nearly 2%, the health care business of this sector so far still accounted for the largest market share in the non-manufactured fabric industry in terms of weight and area.
